Posted On: Aug 20, 2010 (02:12:19)

8/19/2010 - Local Union President/Business Agent Mike Lowery reports that the renewal contract for Durham School Services Mechanics has been signed.  A signed copy will be mailed back to the Company Chief Negotiator and soon after that copies will be provided to all bargaining unit employees.  "It's been a long road but we've reached our goal and we're very happy with the results" states Lowery.  Mechanics received a 3% wage increase each year of the contract and retro pay back to August 2009.  Plus at the signing of the contract they'll be getting another scheduled 3% increase.  Also three of the seven Mechanics will be promoted now that the contract is signed and they'll receive up to 10% increases for the promotion.  The Mechanics also received for the first time a boot and tool allowance.

PBT Members reject cell phone policy

Posted On: Jul 19, 2010 (21:54:22)

Pensacola Bay Transportation Union Members

Reject tentative cell phone policy

negotiated between Local Union and PBT Management

7/16/2010 - Members of Local 1395 who work at Pensacola Bay Transportation voted to reject a tentative cell phone policy negotiated between Local 1395 and PBT Management.

"We reject the policy which is clearly unfair and does not allow for the ability to be reasonable and responsible" states Theresa McDonald, Vice President representing the PBT workers under Local 1395.  "Plus why should we agree to a cell phone policy when the Company has ignored our labor contract which we've had a wage re-opener since November of last year and we're now approaching another wage re-opener scheduled for November 2010" states Ada James, Executive Board Officer representing the PBT workers for Local 1395.

"We're notify the Company and move forward" states Mike Lowery, President / Business Agent of ATU Local 1395.

Negotiations Begin with ECAT

Posted On: Jul 19, 2010 (21:43:53)

ECAT NEGOTIATIONS BEGIN

7/19/2010 - On Tuesday, July 20th at 9:00 am at the ECAT Conference Room, negotiations between ECAT Management and the ATU Local 1395 begin.  The renewal contract expires October 1, 2010.  Local Union President Mike Lowery and Senior Vice President Larry Smith will represent the workers at the bargaining table with ECAT Management.

Lowery states the Local Union is ready and that Larry Smith and himself have applied many hours of work preparing for this day.  Lowery has no plans in using the International for assistance with IVP Gary Rauen or IVP Ray Rivera unless negotiations lead to some kind of Impasse on monetary issues.

The negotiations are under the private sector and therefore do not fall under the sunshine law.  So any members who want to attend must seek approval through the Union President Mike Lowery who in turn will seek approval of the Company.  Under the private sector and the FMCS (Federal Mediation Conciliation Services) the ATU Local 1395 may choose to strike.  Paper work was filed by Local 1395 with the FMCS allowing this process to occur if the Local Union so selects to do so.

Anyone wishing to seek information regarding the negotiations must approach Mike Lowery or Larry Smith.  Send an email to atu1395@aol.com and either Lowery or Smith will get back with you when time permits.

President Lowery appoints committee members

Posted On: Jul 19, 2010 (21:23:07)

COMMITTEE MEMBERS APPOINTED

July 19, 2010 - Local Union President Mike Lowery appointed Union officers to two different committees today representing Board of County Commissioners, Escambia County bargaining unit employees under the ATU Local 1395.

VP representing BCC workers Fredrico Stewart and David Bland were appointed to the Classification Committee which will soon review the current job classifications.  There is concern that some former job classifications were bunched into one classification(s) under Fox Lawson System.  This in turn has not benefited workers who might have certifications, etc. that in turn should allow them to have a different classification and/or an increase in pay.  Stewart is an employee from Roads and Bridges Dept. working at 9 mile road.

President Mike Lowery is actually a committee member to the Classification committee but plans on having David Bland - shop steward from Roads & Bridges / Maintenance / Camp 5 to attend the meetings with Stewart.  Bland is the alternate to Lowery.

Also David Bland - shop steward also from Roads & Bridges / Maintenance / Camp 5 will serve as the Union committee member on the Group Health Benefits Committee.  The alternate to Bland is Chris Hayes the Financial Secretary/Treasurer of Local 1395 and employee from Solid Waste.

Any questions from members can be directed to atu1395@aol.com and the questions or concerns will be forward on to the committee member(s).

Workers Vote for Tentative Agreement on Contract

Posted On: Jul 01, 2010 (11:11:49)

CONTRACT APPROVED BY MEMBERSHIP

Members of the Durham School Services Mechanics labor contract voted to support a tentative agreement between Management and the Union.

The agreement offers a 3% wage increase each year of the agreement to include retroactive pay to August 1, 2009.

Plus the agreement offers 3 out of the 7 workers to be promoted to a higher classification.  Which means these workers will get about a 10% total increase.

Along with the wage and promotion increases - the Mechanics now get a tool allowance and a boot allowance plus much more in the contract.

The members and officers of Local 1395 would like to congratulate these hard working mechanics and look forward to much success in the future.

Special thanks goes out to Steven Price who represented the workers at the negotiations table.
